Pfizer Inc. said Thursday that it is moving its erectile dysfunction medicine Viagra to a new generic, Pfizer Inc.'s Levitra to prevent generic competition in the U. S. The move follows a decision by the U. Food and Drug Administration last week to change the drug's name from Viagra to Levitra.
Pfizer is moving its Levitra medicine to a generic version, Cialis, the same company that manufactures Viagra, and a new name for Levitra, which is similar in structure and uses to treat erectile dysfunction.
"Pfizer has done a tremendous work for the brand, but we hope the generic competition continues to hurt the brand and make it less attractive to many patients," said Pfizer spokesman Daniel Williams. "I'm very pleased that our business relationships are finally beginning to heal."
said in a statement that it is pleased with the move and is "reviewing our options for treating erectile dysfunction and other sexually transmitted diseases" to avoid generic competition in the U.
In its statement, Pfizer said the decision to change its name from Viagra to Levitra "emphases the brand's dedication to patient privacy, the safety of both partners, and the ability to deliver on our promise of a more effective and safer medicine for patients."
The company also reiterated that it is reviewing its options to make its decision more favorable to patients.
In a statement to The Associated Press, Pfizer said that it is reviewing the decision and will consult with consumers and healthcare providers to make the most of the information it provides to advance business plans and help patients make informed decisions.
Pfizer said it has no plans to challenge the decision and will continue to market the drug at a competitive price.

Tadalafil belongs to the group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE 5) inhibitors, primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Erectile dysfunction is the inability to keep a hard and erect penis suitable for sexual activity. Benign prostatic hyperplasia, also called prostate enlargement, is the non-cancerous growth of the prostate gland.
Tadalafil contains ‘Tadalafil’, which works by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis; this allows the blood to flow into the penis when the person is sexually excited. Thereby, it helps to treat erectile dysfunction. Tadalafil relaxes the bladder and prostate muscles, thereby reducing enlarged prostate symptoms such as difficulty in urination and urgent need to urinate.
You are advised to take Tadalafil for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects, such as headache, back pain, muscle pain, pain in the legs and arms, nasal congestion, indigestion, and facial flushing. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.
Do not take Tadalafil if you are taking nitrates (used to treat angina), riociguat (used to treat pulmonary hypertension) or alpha-blockers; if you have heart problems or stroke, low blood pressure or uncontrolled high blood pressure. Tadalafil is not intended for use in women. Tadalafil may cause dizziness, so drive with caution. Avoid consuming alcohol as it might cause increased dizziness. Tadalafil should not be given to children as safety and effectiveness have not been established. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and the medicines you are taking to avoid unpleasant side effects.
If you are taking Tadalafil for only a few months, the effects may wear off after six months. Please consult your doctor before taking Tadalafil.
If you are taking other ED medications, such as Viagra, Cialis or Levitra, please consult your doctor before taking Tadalafil.
Tadalafil may cause dizziness, so avoid driving with you if you experience it; drive with you if you experience it and operate heavy machinery. Tadalafil should be taken with caution. Do not exceed the recommended dose and avoid taking it if you experience severe side effects. Consult your doctor before taking Tadalafil.
Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any other medications used to treat erectile dysfunction (such as Sten-ilis or generic Viagra), or if you have heart problems or stroke;
Tadalafil taken with other medications may raise your blood pressure, so tell your doctor if you are taking these medications:
You are advised to use Tadalafil as needed, even if you feel great, as it can cause dizziness and cause serious side effects. The benefits of Tadalafil outweigh the risks and your doctor may advise you to take it whenever you are sexually excited.
If you are taking Tadalafil for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, this may cause a persistent erection that last for several hours or more. If you take Tadalafil less than three hours after your sexual activity, talk with your doctor then decide if it is safe for you to continue with your treatment. The possibility of priapism is safe to continue after a minimum of three hours.
You are advised to keep taking this medication ‘TAM’ for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, even if you feel great, as it can cause dizziness and cause serious side effects.
1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).
2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.
3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.
Cialis (tadalafil) can interact with certain foods and beverages, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Here are the key drug-food interactions to be aware of:
If you are taking Cialis or other medications to enhance blood pressure, it is important for your doctor to advise you how you should take the medication. Here are the key drug-food interactions:
If you're considering buying Erectile Dysfunction medication online, you've likely seen some of the popular erectile dysfunction drugs available on the market. Here, we will delve into the FDA approvals, the benefits and considerations, and how the products can help you manage your erectile dysfunction effectively.
The Erectile Dysfunction Drugs (Sildenafil, Viagra, Cialis, etc.) are a prescription drug category approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. They are available under several brand names, including Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra. These medications work by increasing blood flow to the penis, helping men achieve and maintain an erection.
The FDA also approved the use of these drugs in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a condition that affects 80% of men with PAH. This helps improve blood flow to the lungs and may help reduce symptoms of PAH.
The FDA also approved the use of these medications in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men. These medications may have similar effects as Erectile Dysfunction drugs and can provide a similar effect to Viagra.
The FDA also approved the use of these medications in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition in which the prostate gland becomes enlarged. This allows men with this condition to have a stronger, longer-lasting erection.
The FDA also approved the use of these medications in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a condition in which the blood vessels in the lungs restrict blood flow. This can help to improve the quality of life for men with this condition.
The FDA also approved the use of these medications in the treatment of ED in men. These medications may have similar effects as Erectile Dysfunction drugs and may be effective for men with ED. The medications should be taken as prescribed and monitored by a medical professional to ensure the drug is working as intended.
